When looking for China holidays, it’s difficult to know what awaits you in such a vast and exciting country. The culture, food and attractions provide a refreshing change from the West and here are our top five highlights:
1. The Great Wall
Some say the Great Wall can be seen from space and stretching over 4,000 miles covering China it is easy to see why. Its history dates back over 2,000 years, with countless warlords building interconnecting walls and adding their part to this special attraction.
2. Terracotta Warriors
China tours are abundant around the Beijing region and one of my personal favourites is the Terracotta Warriors which was discovered as recently as 1974. This awe-inspiring sight originates from 210 BC when the terracotta army was buried protecting Emperor Qin Shi Huang who interestingly laid a hand in the foundation of the Great Wall itself. In the museum, you will see hundreds of life-sized warriors and get a sense of what is was like to be a Chinese warrior in such times.
3. The Forbidden City
The Forbidden City sits in the heart of Beijing and is a China favourite of many. It served as the home of the emperor for over five centuries, with no fewer than twenty-four emperors during that period. Also known as the Palace Museum, it is so spectacular that it is thought that it was forbidden from ordinary folks in the early thirteenth century and this is why it was named as the Forbidden City.
4. Giant Pandas
Chengdu Panda Centre is the largest panda reserve in China. The reserve ensures these beloved national treasures have the support they need to exist and you can watch them in an environment that imitates their natural habitat whilst they play amongst themselves.
5. Hiking and Mountain Climbing
With Mount Everest Base Camp and the Himalayan Peaks at its doorstep, China has some truly breathtaking scenery to hike and mountain climb. Other great mountainous areas at your disposal include Namcha Barwa and Quinghai-Tibet Plateau, so you can be sure there is no shortage of terrain to trek.
This is just a taster of what China has to offer. If you explore and travel China we are sure you will enjoy and find many comparable attractions!
